If you're using the MyRepChat mobile app on an Android device and noticing that some contacts appear with unexpected or unfamiliar names, you may have multiple Gmail accounts synced to your device.
What's Happening
When more than one Gmail account is connected to your Android device, MyRepChat may pull contact information from a non-primary account. For example, if a family member's Gmail account is also synced to your device, MyRepChat may display contact names as they're saved in that account, which may differ from how you have them saved in the primary account.
How to Fix It
You can resolve this by unsyncing contacts from the non-primary Gmail account in your Android settings. This is a two-part process: stopping future syncing, then clearing the contacts that have already been synced to your device.
Part 1: Stop Future Syncing
- Open your Android Settings app.
- Tap Accounts & backup or Users & accounts (the label varies by device).
- Tap Manage accounts.
- Tap the Gmail account you want to remove from contact syncing.
- Tap Account sync.
- Toggle off Contacts.
Part 2: Remove Contacts Already Synced to Your Device
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Find and tap Contacts. (If you don't see it, tap the menu and select Show system.)
- Tap Storage or Storage & Cache (the label varies by device).
- Tap Clear storage or Clear data at the bottom of the screen.
Note: Clearing storage removes the synced contacts from your phone only. It does not delete any contacts from the Google account itself.
After completing both steps, MyRepChat will display contact names based on your primary account, and the names should match what you expect to see.
